The Dodge Viper is a unique outlier in the automotive world. While almost every other vehicle from this era requires a "chip key" to start the engine, the 2003–2010 Viper (SRT10) does not use a transponder chip. The security system is instead managed by the remote fob and the vehicle's onboard alarm module.

The Key: The ignition key is a standard mechanical blade (typically using the Y159 or Y157 blank). It contains no electronics.
The Security: Immobilization is handled by the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM). If the car is locked with the remote, the alarm must be disarmed via the fob to allow the car to remain running.
Compatibility: This applies to all 2003–2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupes and Convertibles.
